Grace Ndiritu is een Brits-Keniaanse beeldende kunstenaar, filmmaker en schrijver. Met The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight maakt ze voor de heropening van de Schouwburg in Kortrijk een kunstwerk geïnspireerd door het boek ‘The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight’ van Thom Hartmann. In dit project onderzoekt ze onze onweerstaanbare drang om – dwars tegen de wereldwijde chaos en klimaatcrisis in – een nieuwe, duurzame toekomst te creëren.
Het project is als een wekker: een oproep om te (her)ontwaken. Niet alleen wijzelf moeten wakker worden, maar ook het theater als ruimte voor reflectie, gemeenschap en verandering. De opkomende zon in haar kunst staat voor het begin van een nieuw tijdperk, een tijdperk van hoop, vernieuwing en herstel van de natuur. The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight is een zintuiglijke en spirituele uitnodiging van de kunstenaar om onze relatie met de natuurlijke wereld te helen.
Het totaalkunstwerk wordt gerealiseerd binnen de procentregeling tijdens de verbouwing en vormt een artistieke reflectie op een wereld in crisis.

Grace Ndiritu betrekt bij het maken van haar kunstwerken graag de lokale gemeenschap. Zo zal ze in Kortrijk een ‘Plant Theater for Plant People’ creëren. En daar kan jij aan deelnemen!
Vanaf februari 2026 kan je in Texture Museum gratis deelnemen aan de cocreatieworkshops 'Plant Theater For Plant People', waar je samen kleurrijke maskers, kostuums en protestborden maakt. Samen bouwen we zo aan een hoopvolle, duurzame toekomst. In het najaar komen alle creaties tot leven tijdens een grote collectieve performance... en jij kan daar deel van uitmaken. Zin om mee te creëren aan een nieuw tijdperk? Neem dan deel aan 'Plant Theater For Plant People'.

Grace Ndiritu is a British-Kenyan visual artist, filmmaker, and writer. With The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight, she has created an artwork for the reopening of the Schouwburg in Kortrijk, inspired by Thom Hartmann’s book The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight. In this project, she explores our irresistible urge to create a new, sustainable future — despite global chaos and the climate crisis.
The project functions like an alarm clock: a call to (re)awaken. Not only must we wake up ourselves, but the theatre, as a space for reflection, community, and change, must awaken as well. The rising sun in her artwork symbolizes the beginning of a new era, an era of hope, renewal, and the restoration of nature. The Last Days of Ancient Sunlight is a sensory and spiritual invitation from the artist to heal our relationship with the natural world.
This artwork is created as part of the percent-for-art scheme during the renovation and serves as an artistic reflection on a world in crisis.
